An environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) precedes the implementation of projects with the potential to cause significant environmental impacts, positive or negative, on the environment. After an ESIA has been done, a report is submitted to the competent environment authorities, in our case the Ministry of Land and Environment, which has the authority to issue an environmental license for purposes of environmental licensing. An environmental license (EL) allows those proposing activities to start construction.
When conducting environmental and social impact assessments, IMPACTO observes the environmental legislation in force in Mozambique and meets international requirements, including those of the World Bank.
